大连横山寺森林公园位于大连龙王塘横山南麓，占地面积45万平方米。是一个以佛教文化为主题，集休闲观光、文化传播、生活体验、运动健身（登山）为一体的大型大连旅游景点、佛教圣地。
横山寺开山历史久远，文化底蕴。为保护文化古迹，于2003年重建横山寺，2005年5月25日举行了横山寺全堂佛像开光大典。复建后的横山寺建筑面积12000平方米，是中国北方最大的观音菩萨道场。被横山九峰环抱的横山寺气势宏伟、金碧辉煌。寺庙殿堂供奉释迦尼佛、毗卢观音等48尊佛像，庄严慈祥、令人肃目。横山寺古刹福佑一方，横山文化与时俱进。横山寺以弘扬观音文化、共建和谐社会为宗旨，在举办各项佛事活动的同时，全面致力于教育、慈善、禅修、环保等各项公益事业，2009年被授予“双文明寺庙”。
横山寺在大连旅顺南路龙王塘水库附近向山里走进。所以，旅顺南路有明显标识。私家车去那里比较方便。喜欢徒步锻炼的人可以徒步进入，路途有几公里沿龙王塘水库边沿道路行走，可以走到横山寺山门。

山门附近建有游客服务中心和售票处。现在不收门票，但不久就会收门票的。
横山寺文化主题公园园内游览路线比较规整，一条路线顺序进出。
首先进入真言大道。
真言大道两侧的枫叶正是一片火红的时候。

进山的道路很长，约有近4公里吧。所以一路上修建了很多小景：小桥、凉亭、观赏石雕。
