夏家河子海滨浴场在大连市的西北部，是大连三面环海之一的渤海海岸。
大连市三面环海，是一个半岛城市。距市内最近的、风光景色最好的大连星海湾、滨海路、金石滩等海岸都面临黄海，海浪拍岸形成了著名的海岸地质景观。
而夏家河子海岸面临渤海湾，夏季多南风，这里风平浪静，沙滩平坦，离岸几十米海水也只有齐腰的水深，特别适应老人和孩子戏水玩沙，有“天然的游泳池”之称。

大连夏季海滨浴场最热闹的时候是8月，进入9月天气转凉，海滩上人会大量减少，特别是阴雨天。
